The number and composition of the MEPs in the European Parliament has changed by Brexit. Therefore, Finland now has 14 MEPs, since a 27-year old Alviina Alametsä joined the Greens/EFA group. Good news also for the Finnish transport sector, since the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) appointed Alametsä as a substitute member. She is a politician of the Green League party in Finland and a councillor in the Helsinki City Council. Alametsä has, for example, put forward an initiative to a better accessibility to the nature through the improvement of public transport.
Another appointment in the TRAN Committee is Elsi Katainen (Renew Europe). She will become a full member of the Committee. Katainen has mentioned Finland’s accessibility and inland transport connections as her personal interests. According to her, solutions for a cleaner transport and the position of sparsely populated areas in transport reforms are some of the key issues in the becoming European transport reforms.
Henna Virkkunen (EPP) continues as a substitute member in TRAN Committee. During the previous parliamentary term in 2014-2019 she was a full member of the Committee.
